ADOLESCENT BREAST HEALTH
The Adolescent Breast Health Initiative for Nova Scotia is a project of Breast Cancer Network Nova Scotia (a committee of Breast Cancer Action Nova Scotia) and funded by the Public Health Agency of Canada’s Cancer Program – Public Health Community Programming Centre for Chronic Disease Prevention and Control.
The Initiative targets girls from the ages of 16 to 18 and is being created from consultation with teen girls, healthcare providers and health related organizations/associations, Network Representatives, the BCANS Board of Directors, CancerCare Manitoba and The Pink Tulip Foundation.
The intended result of creating an Adolescent Breast Health Initiative in Nova Scotia is:
• to create material that captures the attention of teen girls;
• to create material that educates teen girls;
• to create material that moves teen girls to make healthy choices;
• to have teen girls in our province educated about breast health and breast cancer;
• to have the incidence of breast cancer reduced in Nova Scotia;
• to create a mindset of healthy living that will be imparted to their future children;
• to create material that can be used by other provinces and territories to help reduce incidence of breast cancer and to empower Canadian women to live healthy lifestyles.”
Phase One of the Adolescent Breast Health Initiative for Nova Scotia was completed in March 2010. Phase Two began in October 2010 and will be completed by December 2012.
The livepink presentation from Phase One is available to view in English and French. A more refined presentation will be completed during Phase Two.
